Skyrim Sound Problem–Fix Skyrim Problem With Sound

Skyrim players often complain they can’t hear any sound, while others complained that they can’t hear when NPC character talks. This problem is annoying. One may experience this problem from the first day the game is installed or it may suddenly arise later on.

Change Sound Settings

You should first try to change the sound settings of your computer. To fix Skyrim sound problem launch Control Panel, Sound Settings and adjust the Sound Quality appropriately.

  1. Click Start, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Hardware and Sound | Sound.
  3. A new dialog will open. Under Playback tab, select your speaker and click Properties button.
  4. A new parent dialog will open. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Select the following Sound Quality: 24 Bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality)
  6. Click OK | OK.

Repair Sound Configurations in Registry

The Registry is a part of your computer where the information about your computer is stored. There is a section where all the sound configurations are stored which Skyrim has to retrieve time-by-time.

The problem arises when the concerning keys are mistakenly deleted by other applications. In such cases, you need to repair the registry errors and all the problems found using a Registry Cleaner. It will fix Skyrim sound problem within few minutes.

Uninstall and Reinstall Skyrim

It is possible the installation of this game is corrupted, i.e. some of the program files are deleted/ modified. Uninstall and reinstall it to fix Skyrim sound problem.

  1. Click Start, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs | Uninstall a Program.
  3. Select Skyrim from the list and click Uninstall.
  4. Follow the on screen wizard and reboot your computer when it finishes.
  5. Download a fresh setup online and continue the installation procedure.

Update Sound Drivers

There could be a problem with the sound driver installed on your computer. For instance, your sound driver can be outdated. With the help of a Driver Updating tool, update it immediately.

  1. Download a Driver Scanner.
  2. Install and run with necessary administrator privileges.
  3. Start a driver scan online and download them.

Disable V- Synchronisation

The V-Synchronisation feature can make Skyrim sound problem. Double click the game shortcut on your desktop, locate the settings and disable V-Sync feature to get rid of this problem.

  1. Exit Skyrim.
  2. Open My Documents | My Games | Skyrim | Skyrim.
  3. Double click SkyrimPrefs.ini file to open it with a text editor like Notepad.
  4. Scroll down till [Display] section appears.
  5. There is a string called iPresentInterval. Its default value would be 1. Replace it with 0. If no such string is found, then create a new one at the end of the section.
  6. Click File | Save.

Set-Up Preferences Appropriately

The game preferences are stored in a separate file called SkyrimPrefs.ini. Skyrim sound problem arises when this file is incorrectly modified due to system crash or automatic system reboots. Open SkyrimPrefs.ini as shown above and then make sure the following strings contain only given values:

  • bDoDepthOfField=1
  • bTreesReceiveShadows=0
  • bDrawLandShadows=0
  • bShowFloatingQuestMarkers=1
  • bShowQuestMarkers=1
  • bShowCompass=1
  • bMouseAcceleration=1
  • fAutosaveEveryXMins=15.0000
